Abstract
В статье анализируются изменения в планировке центральных улиц больших городов, которые происходят в течение последних 15-20 лет. Объектом изучения стали парные города: это Хива и Ургенч – в Узбекистане; Полоцк и Новополоцк – в Беларуси. На их примере выявлены общие градостроительные факторы, влияющие на трансформацию застройки, расположенной вдоль обновленных улиц. Проведенный анализ показал разрыв между фактической типологией улиц и той транспортной моделью большого города, которую используют градостроители при реконструкции городского центра.

This paper analyses the changes in the main streets layout over the past 15-20 years evidencing city pairs: Khiva - Urgench in Uzbekistan and Polotsk – Novopolotsk in Belarus, respectively. The study helped to identify common urban development factors affecting the transformation of the buildings located along the modernised streets, as well as to reveal a contradiction between the actual streets typology and the large city transport model used by urban planners during the city center reconstruction.
