Digital colonialism and national movements for digital independence

Abstract

The article describes the phenomenon of digital colonialism. The evolution of this phenomenon in the context of globalization and deconstruction of globalization is traced. A connection is found between the growing influence of digital colonialism and globalization. This connection did not affect aspects of national security, since transnational corporations that owned digital platforms gave priority to commercial interests. A connection is also found between the growth of national movements for digital independence and the deconstruction of the globalization space. The United States became the initiator of the deconstruction of the globalization space. They are also a digital metropolis. With sanctions, this metropolis motivated China and Russia to gain digital independence. The PRC seems to be the most successful in achieving digital independence.
