Abstract
It is shown that the interest of central banks in issuing digital currencies is rapidly moving from theoretical research to practical ways to implement and test pilot projects of the national digital currency (Central Bank Digital Currency, CBDC). The categories, principles of use, difference from other cryptocurrencies of the CBDC are highlighted. The features of the implementation of the digital currency project of the People's Bank of China and the prospects for its development are considered.
