Since China started the policy of reforms the quantity of international marriages is increasing steadily. There were approximately 14 000 mixed marriages in China in 1982, by 2016 this figure was more then 400 000 transnational unions. This paper focuses on gender specificities of marriages between Slavic women and Chinese men. The project highlights the economic, political and social prerequisites of unions between Chinese men and Belarusian/Russian women. In the initial stage of the research implementation, the focus was on the core causes of conflicts between spouses. The narrative interviews with Slavic wives identified the main reasons of misunderstanding. One of the key issues is a lack of knowledge about special aspects of wife’s and husband’s culture and mentality. Analysis of data also revealed a low level of language proficiency, distorted stereotypes of spouses about each other and different perceptions about gender roles in the family. Previously, a number of researchers have attempted to analyze the cultural dimension of mixed families. Meanwhile, the gender aspect of marriages between Chinese men and women from the former Soviet Union are still being investigated badly now.ru
