dc.description.abstractReliability theory has long been used in the design of highways, and most widely in the design of road pavements. However, in road construction, several basic provisions of reliability theory are presented in a somewhat distorted form, replacing generally accepted concepts, for example, the reliability coefficient is used instead of the probability of failure-free operation. In general, the reliability theory of highways proves its validity, but practical application requires a number of clarifications. Experience in the operation of highways shows that their actual service life is often significantly less than the design values. This can be explained by the fact that the so-called strength factors (rigidity factors) for the permissible elastic deflection cannot provide the required reliability factors (probability of failure-free operation).ru
